Lagos, March 8, 2026 (NAN) A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Adelaja Adeoye, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
Adeoye in a statement on Sunday in Lagos, said his decision represents what he described as “the audacity of boldness” in the state’s political landscape.
He said his decision to step forward was driven by the need to challenge the entrenched political order and help reposition the PDP as a credible alternative in Lagos politics.
Adeoye, a media strategist and real estate entrepreneur, said his involvement in the party’s internal deliberations, particularly discussions around zoning arrangements for the 2027 elections, had strengthened his conviction that the PDP could regain relevance in the state.
“In the often predictable theatre of Nigerian politics, where incumbents and anointed successors dominate the script, a rare display of raw courage is unfolding.
“My decision to step forward is not merely a declaration of interest; it represents what I call the audacity of boldness — the willingness to challenge entrenched political structures and present Lagosians with a credible alternative.
“For too long, many have assumed that opposition politics in Lagos is futile, but democracy thrives when citizens are offered real choices and when leaders are willing to stand up for their convictions.”
Adeoye said his aspiration was also driven by the need to rebuild the PDP after years of electoral setbacks in the state.
“The PDP remains a platform with the capacity to offer Lagosians a different vision of governance if we unite behind credible leadership and pursue reforms that inspire public confidence.
“Our ongoing conversations within the party, particularly around zoning arrangements for 2027, could become a game changer capable of strengthening unity and broadening our appeal.
“This moment calls for courage, innovation and a renewed commitment to democratic values.”
The PDP chieftain said his background in communications and entrepreneurship positioned him to mobilise a new generation of voters seeking fresh ideas and inclusive leadership.
Adeoye, who hails from communities across Ikorodu, Epe, Isolo and the wider Ijebu and Awori cultural areas, said his grassroots connection would help strengthen the party’s engagement with voters.
“In a nation where politics has long been dominated by older, established figures, the emergence of younger voices represents a subtle but important shift.
“Our politics must begin to reflect the aspirations of a new generation that seeks innovation, accountability and people-centred governance.
“My aspiration is therefore not only about personal ambition but about contributing to a generational renewal in leadership," he said.
Adeoye’s political journey reflects years of consistent engagement in party organisation and public advocacy.
According to him, in 2017, he served as the pioneer State Publicity Secretary of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Lagos and later became the party’s National Publicity Secretary in 2019.
He said by 2022, he declared his ambition to contest for the House of Representatives under the PDP to represent Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II in Lagos West Senatorial District.
“Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, deserves leadership that is bold enough to question old assumptions and innovative enough to chart a new path for inclusive development.
“As the journey to 2027 begins, our responsibility is to restore hope, strengthen democratic participation and show that the future of Lagos politics cannot be written solely by the old guard.
“The audacity of boldness is alive in Lagos, and I believe our democracy will ultimately be the better for it," Adeoye said.
He said that his interest in the governorship race could inject fresh energy into the PDP as it seeks to rebuild its political strength in Lagos ahead of the 2027 elections. (NAN)
