Osun 2026 Has Shown That a Determined People Cannot Be Defeated

Osun 2026 Has Shown That a Determined People Cannot Be Defeated

The outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election has once again demonstrated one of the most important principles of democracy: when the people are determined and their votes are protected, their will can prevail.

I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and, more importantly, I congratulate the people of Osun State for coming out to make their choice.

Governor Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.

For me, however, the significance of this election goes beyond the numbers.

It is the message it sends to Nigerians as we approach 2027.

The People Remain More Powerful Than Political Machinery

I have always believed that no political party, no matter how powerful it considers itself, can permanently stand against the collective determination of the people.

The Osun election has reinforced that belief.

A determined electorate cannot simply be dismissed.

Political influence, money, intimidation or the enormous advantages available to those in power should never be greater than the will of citizens expressed freely through the ballot box.

The people of Osun stood their ground.

They came out.

They voted.

And they defended their choice.

That should give Nigerians hope.

Lagosians Must Learn From Osun

There is also an important lesson here for the people of Lagos State.

For too long, many people have been made to believe that political change in Lagos is almost impossible.

I disagree.

No political arrangement is permanent when the people decide that they want something different.

If the people of Osun can make their voices heard through the ballot, Lagosians can do the same in 2027.

But change will not happen simply because people are dissatisfied.

It requires participation.

It requires courage.

It requires organisation.

Most importantly, it requires people to come out in large numbers and vote.

That is why I am calling on Lagosians, particularly our young people, workers, traders, professionals, artisans and families who desire a different direction for our state, to begin preparing now.

Your vote remains one of the most powerful tools available to you in a democracy.

APM Offers Lagos a Credible Alternative

Our message under the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, is not simply that Lagos needs a change of political party.

Lagos needs a change in the quality and direction of governance.

We are presenting an alternative centred on practical solutions to the everyday problems confronting Lagosians.

We must address the housing crisis.

We must tackle the flooding that continues to disrupt communities and destroy livelihoods every year.

We must confront traffic congestion with serious long-term planning.

We must create meaningful opportunities for our young people.

We must improve healthcare, education, infrastructure and security.

And we must manage the enormous resources of Lagos with greater transparency, prudence and accountability.

This is what our Atunto Eko — Reset Lagos Agenda represents.

2027 Must Be About the People

The lesson from Osun is simple.

Political power ultimately belongs to the people.

When citizens understand that power and use it collectively, they can determine the direction of their government.

As we approach 2027, I want Lagosians to remember this.

Do not allow anyone to convince you that your vote does not matter.

Do not surrender your future before the election has even taken place.

Register.

Participate.

Organise.

Vote.

And protect your vote.

The determination demonstrated by the people of Osun has shown us what is possible.

In 2027, Lagosians can also make a clear choice for a new direction.

I believe the APM offers that credible alternative, both in Lagos and nationally.

Together, we can build a government that puts the people first and delivers practical solutions to the challenges affecting their everyday lives.

The ballot remains the most powerful peaceful weapon available to the people. Let us use it.
